Speak a message instead of typing it

Where it is. A microphone sits under the message box, next to the paperclip. It is there for a message, a thread reply and a forum post alike, and on a phone as well as a computer.

Dictating. Click the microphone and talk. The words appear in the box as you say them, so you can see it working, and the button is a stop square while it listens. Click it again and a cleaned-up version replaces what you saw: the live text is a quick guess, the one you keep is the careful one. It all lands where your cursor was, so you can dictate into the middle of something you have already started writing. Nothing is sent until you send it.

Punctuation. Say the name of the mark and you get the mark: question mark, exclamation mark, comma and full stop, in whichever of the four languages you are dictating in. The sentence after a full stop starts with a capital by itself.

Choosing the language. While the microphone is on, a small language code sits next to it. Tap it to move between English, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish, and it remembers what you picked on that computer. That setting only steers the live text: the cleaned-up version always recognises the language you actually spoke, so Norwegian, Swedish and Danish come out as themselves even when you use DealJourney in English.

Changing your mind halfway. Delete the dictated words while you are still talking and it starts over from that point. What you deleted does not come back when the cleaned-up version arrives.

If nothing happens. The browser asks permission for the microphone the first time; if that was declined, it has to be allowed again in the browser's own site settings. Very short recordings are ignored, and if no speech is heard you are told rather than left with an empty box.
