Public displays
A public display is a page of live tiles — revenue, pipeline, activity, charts — on an address that opens without signing in. That is what makes it work on a television in the corner: no login, no session that expires overnight, no laptop to unlock every morning.
Two things you can create:
- A display — one screen of tiles, at its own address.
- A slideshow — several displays rotating on a timer, for when one screen has to serve more than one team.
The link is the security. Anyone with the address sees the numbers. Treat it like a password: do not post it in a public channel, and rotate it if it gets out. Rotating replaces the address, and any screen still on the old one stops updating — which is the point.
Only put on it what you would be comfortable a visitor seeing. Revenue totals and pipeline value on a wall in an open office are visible to everyone who walks past, including customers and candidates.
Display versus dashboard. A dashboard is yours, inside the app, and can be dense: Dashboard. A display is read from four metres away by someone walking past, so it holds a handful of large numbers and nothing else.
Display versus the momentum big screen. The big screen is the sales floor's — leaderboards and a celebration on every win: The big screen. A public display is for numbers that do not need a party attached.
