Turn a chat message into CRM work
Chat is where things get decided; the CRM is where they have to end up. Three ways across.
Mention a record while writing. Type @ followed by a record's name, key, or a person's full name. Spaces are supported. Exact matches come first across record types, so a matching record is not pushed below loosely matching people. At the start of a sentence, a person may win an otherwise equal match; you still choose what to insert. Selecting a suggestion inserts the reference. Typing a name alone does not automatically turn it into a mention or notify anyone.
At the start of a sentence, an unambiguous name of someone already in the conversation can offer Mention {{name}}. Click it or press Tab to create the mention, or press Escape to dismiss it. Enter keeps its normal send behaviour. These suggestions use the members already loaded in your browser.
Convert a message. Convert to CRM item in the message menu turns "we should follow up with them in March" into a real record with an owner and a date, rather than a line that scrolls away. This is the single most valuable habit in chat: if a message describes work, convert it before you close the tab.
Pick what the message becomes:
- Follow-up: a task with an Responsible, a Deadline date and a Priority, optionally on a customer, contact, deal or subscription.
- Note: the words go on a record's timeline, Logged as a note, call, meeting, email or follow-up.
- New deal: a deal in your first pipeline stage, with a Value and an Expected close date, on a customer or contact.
- New lead: a new lead from a Company, a Contact person, an Email or a Phone.
For a deal or a lead, the message itself also lands on the new record's timeline, so the context travels with it.
Most of the form fills itself in. Records tagged in the message, and records mentioned in the conversation lately, sit above the search as one-tap choices. A person tagged in the message becomes the owner, an email address or phone number goes onto a new lead, and phrases like "tomorrow", "next week" or "Friday" set the date. Dealy then reads the message and fills in the rest, such as a clear title or "before the weekend" as a date; you see Dealy filled this in. Check it before you create.. Anything you have already changed by hand stays as you set it. Reading the message uses a small amount of AI credit; without credit the form still fills in from the message alone.
The quick dates (Today, Tomorrow, Next week, In 2 weeks) set the date in one tap. Ctrl + Enter creates it without reaching for the mouse.
When the message has replies, Include the whole thread puts the whole conversation on the record, with who said what, instead of the one message. Say so in the thread replies in the thread so everyone there can see it was handled; when you give the task to someone else it is switched on for you, and it notifies them.
Once converted, the message shows a small chip saying what it became, such as a follow-up on a customer or a new deal. Click it to open the record. Opening the convert menu on that message again warns you it has already been done, so the same thing is not created twice by accident.
Forward it. Forward sends a message to another conversation — Search channels…, check Preview, then Forward. You get Message forwarded and View to follow it across.
Link the conversation to the work. A channel can follow specific pieces of work: Link an issue — Search by key or title... — and the panel then shows {{count}} issues with {{count}} open and {{count}} resolved. Updates land in the channel as they happen, and History shows them in order: changed the status, changed the assignee, added a comment.
Link a sprint does it wholesale: Link a sprint and every issue in it - now and later - joins this conversation automatically.
Only channel owners and admins can link issues
Pointing someone at a conversation. Copy link gives a link that opens the channel; Copy link on a message points at that exact message. Use the second one — "see the chat" is not a reference, a link to the message is.
Paste a message link into chat and it shows as a small card instead of a long address: the conversation's name, who wrote the message and how it starts. A link to a reply reads Thread in {{channel}}. Click the card to jump straight to that message, without leaving the page. To point at a whole thread or forum post instead, right-click it or type # and its title: Threads
The card only shows the name and text to people who can already open that conversation. Everyone else, including anyone in another workspace, sees Message link and nothing more, so pasting a link in the wrong place never reveals what the message said. A message that has since been removed reads Deleted message.
A channel name typed as plain text points nowhere: Not a link — This is plain text, so it points nowhere. Pick the conversation you meant:
