Fields, and who fills each one

A field is a blank in the document that somebody fills in. The single most important property is whose blank it is.

Field types: Text, Long text, Date, Number, Email, Checkbox, Dropdown, Signature and Initials.

Adding them. Insert field puts one in. Field section groups several together; Input fieldInsert an input field into the text — drops one into a sentence.

Assigning them. In Field settings you set who fills it: the panel shows {{role}} fills it in, and in the document you see {{role}} fills this in. If nobody has been added yet you are told Add a signer first.

A field you fill is not a field they fill. Anything you already know — their company name, the price, the start date — should be filled by you before sending, not left as a blank for them to complete. Every blank you leave is a chance for them to get it wrong and a reason for them to put the document down.

Making them clear. Field name names it, Shown inside the empty field and Optional hint under the field explain it. A field labelled with a question the signer can answer without ringing you is worth the extra seconds.

Locking. Lock this field so it cannot be moved, edited or deleted Locks every field in this section. Each field keeps its own lock setting for when you unlock the section again. Use this on a template so the next person cannot accidentally move the signature block.

Sections that appear only when relevant. A block can watch a field — Watch this field — and The block appears and disappears live as the signer fills the document, and the signed PDF matches what they saw. That is how one template covers both the with-support and without-support version of an agreement. Add a field somewhere else in the document first — a condition has to watch a field.

Check before sending. Before you send catches the two that ruin a send: {{count}} signature block(s) have no signer assigned. and {{count}} field(s) are assigned to a counterparty, but no counterparty signer has been added. It also warns about More than one field is named "{{label}}".

Fields lists every field in the document — Jump to this field in the document — which is the fastest way to audit a long contract. No fillable fields yet. Add a field grid or an inline field.
