Opportunities

An opportunity is a specific deal you're actively working with a customer — a defined value, an expected close date, and a stage in your sales pipeline. Unlike a lead, an opportunity assumes the relationship is real; you're now negotiating, scoping, or closing.

Each opportunity belongs to a customer. You can have many opportunities against the same customer over time — for example, a new contract every renewal cycle, or separate deals for different products. The customer record is the long-lived entity; opportunities come and go.

Opportunities move through stages — your sales pipeline — until they either close as won or close as lost. The forecast and reporting views in DealJourney aggregate across stages so you can see the health of the pipeline at a glance: total value by stage, conversion rates, average time to close, and so on.

When you close an opportunity as won, that's where the real customer relationship begins: invoices, subscriptions, and ongoing account-management activities flow from won opportunities. Marking won and lost outcomes accurately is what gives the reports any signal at all, so it's worth being disciplined about it.
