Put fields and groups on a tab

Available on all plansHow-toOpen in DealJourney

Fields on a tab are live. People read them and edit them straight on the tab, and what they type is saved to the record the same as anywhere else. Building a tab is deciding which values belong together on one screen.

Add a field

  1. 1Open the tab and switch on ⟦Edit Layout⟧.
  2. 2Choose ⟦Add field⟧. Choose a standard or custom field to add to this tab.
  3. 3Search the list. Each entry says whether it is a Standard field that came with the CRM or one of your own (Custom). On the customer card you get both. On a custom object only your own fields are offered, because a custom object's built-in values are already on it. Fields are listed and searched under the name they carry everywhere else in your language, so a Danish workspace finds the CVR number by typing "cvr".
  4. 4If you have groups on the tab, set ⟦Place in group⟧ to drop the field straight into one, or leave it on No group to place it loose on the grid.
  5. 5Pick the field. It appears on the tab and you can move and resize it from there. Arrange and resize what is on a tab

To take a field off a tab, remove it with the cross on its corner while editing. The value stays on the record; only this view of it goes away.

Create a field you do not have yet

You do not have to break off and go to settings when a field is missing. In the same panel, choose ⟦Create custom field⟧, give it a Field name and a Field type. For a Select or Multi-select field, list the Options as Comma-separated options. Then ⟦Create and add⟧.

The field is a real custom field on this record type from that moment: it exists in the field list, in import and export, in filters and in reports, exactly as if you had created it in settings. See Add a custom field.

Choose how a field with options is shown

A field with a fixed set of choices does not have to be a dropdown. Select it while editing and set ⟦Option display⟧: a dropdown, or the options laid out as buttons or checkboxes, side by side or stacked. Three or four choices people set constantly are faster as visible buttons; a list of forty is not.

This is a per-tab choice. The same field can be a dropdown on one tab and a row of buttons on another, and the values it accepts do not change either way.

Gather fields into a group

A tab with twenty loose fields on it is a wall. A group is a headed box that holds fields together and can be moved and resized as one thing.

  1. 1Choose ⟦Add group⟧.
  2. 2Type the Group title into the heading. A group with no title is listed as Untitled group when you are choosing where to put a field, so it is worth naming them as you go.
  3. 3Add fields to it with ⟦Add field to group⟧ inside the group, or by setting Place in group when you add a field from the top of the page. An empty group says No fields in this group yet. while you are editing and is invisible to everyone else.

Fields inside a group sit in a single column and follow the group as it moves. Deleting a group deletes the fields' placement inside it, not the fields' values.
