What the group's numbers actually count

The group overview answers three different questions at once, and they do not share a population. The page is laid out to say which is which, because this is exactly the thing that gets argued about in a board meeting.

In this period

Won and Won value count deals by the day they were won. A deal opened two years ago and won last week counts in last week. A deal that was already won when it was imported into DealJourney counts on the day it was actually won, not the day it arrived.

New deals counts the deals opened in the period.

Conversion is about the deals opened in this period and how they have turned out since: of the ones that have been decided, the share that were won. It is deliberately measured on one group of deals rather than comparing wins in the period against losses in the period, because DealJourney records the day a deal was won and does not record the day one was lost.

Right now

Open deals, Open value, Customers, People and Users are as things stand today. Changing the period at the top does not change them. Open pipeline is not a question about a reporting period: you want to know what is in it now.

Won and lost stages

A deal counts as won or lost according to how that company has marked its own stages, not according to what the stage is called. If a company has renamed its lost stage, those deals still count as lost. If a company has not marked its lost stage at all, DealJourney falls back to the name.

If a company's conversion rate looks too high, that is the first thing to check: open that company's deal stages and make sure the stage it uses for lost deals is marked as a lost stage.

All time

Choosing All time means all time: every won deal ever, and every deal ever opened.

Money across currencies

If the group has not set a reporting currency, each company's money stays in its own and the group does not add them up. Set one and everything is converted at the day's rate. Where we have no rate for a currency, that money is left out of the total and the page says which currency is missing. It is never counted one for one.

Scoped people see a different total

If you cover only some of the group's companies, every figure on the page is narrowed to those companies and the page says so next to your name. Your group total and an owner's group total are different numbers, and both are right.
