Link companies to a parent company

A company with departments arrives as several cards, and that is deliberate: each department has its own salesperson, its own people and its own deals. What the cards do not say on their own is that they belong together. Linking them to the parent company is what turns a pile of similar names into a group you can see as one.

Linking one company

  1. 1Open the company and go to its Relationer tab.
  2. 2Press Lägg till relation.
  3. 3Under Relationstyp, pick what the link is, for example Dotterbolag or Filial. The dialog shows the two companies with an arrow between them, so you can see which one sits on top.
  4. 4Fill in the two companies. The company you have open is offered at the top of each list, marked Aktuell, so you only search for the other one.
  5. 5Press Skapa relation.

Linking a batch at once

  1. 1Open Kunder from the sidebar.
  2. 2Narrow the list to the departments you want, by search or filter. See Search, filter, and save customer views.
  3. 3Tick them. Ticking every match of a filter works too.
  4. 4Choose Koppla till moderbolag from the actions above the list.
  5. 5Search for the parent company under Moderbolag.
  6. 6Leave Relation on Filial for departments of the same company, or pick another relationship if that describes it better.
  7. 7Press the link button.

Only the relationship is written. Nothing is merged and nothing moves: every department keeps its own salesperson, contacts, deals and history, and the parent company is unchanged apart from gaining the group.

Starting from the parent company instead

The same job works the other way round, which is easier when you already have the parent company open. On its Relations tab, press Lägg till flera. Companies that share this one's organisation number or the identifying part of its name are offered straight away under Ser ut att höra hit, so you do not have to remember how each department was spelled. Tick the ones that really belong, search for any others, and link them in one press.

The suggestions are only suggestions. Nothing is linked until you tick it, and a company that already belongs to a group is not offered at all.

What it gives you

The group then shows on each card's Relations tab, and the parent company gathers what its group is doing: the contacts, activities and deals of every company under it, in one view, without losing which department each belongs to.

Why a company can be skipped

The result names anything that was left exactly as it was, so you can see what did not change:

  • It already sits under a different parent company. Nothing is re-pointed automatically, because a group somebody built by hand is not something to overwrite in a batch. Remove that relationship on the company's Relations tab first if the new parent is the right one.
  • It was already linked to this parent company.
  • It is the parent company itself, which can happen when you tick the whole filtered list.
  • It sits above the chosen parent in the structure, which would make the group loop back on itself.

Departments are not duplicates

A head office and its departments often share an organisation number, which is also what makes them look like duplicates. They are not: linking them is the right answer, and merging them would lose each department's own deals and accounting link. The merge screen refuses that case on purpose, and explains why. See Merge duplicate customers.

When a department card arrives from your accounting system and the company it belongs to is already in DealJourney, the link is made for you as the card is created.
