Lead statuses
A lead status says how far along a prospect is before it becomes real business — typically something like new, contacted, qualified, or unqualified. It is the one field that tells you whether anybody has actually done anything with a lead yet.
Statuses are defined by your company, not fixed by DealJourney, so the list you see is whatever your administrator set up. If a status you need is missing, that is a settings change rather than a limitation.
Lead status vs opportunity stage. They answer different questions and they do not overlap:
- A lead status tracks whether a prospect is worth pursuing at all.
- An opportunity stage tracks how close a real deal is to closing.
A lead carries a status until it is converted; from that point the opportunity's stage takes over. Nothing should sit in both worlds at once — if you are forecasting revenue against a lead, it should have been converted.
You can change a status directly in the leads list by clicking the status cell, which is quicker than opening the record when you are working through a batch after a calling session.
